Awkward painting unrelated
Mike Snyder signed off from the 10pm newscast on Channel 5 last night after 19 years in the chair. We played his final message many times today on the morning show. It was uncomfortable audio for sure. I don’t doubt that his emotion was real, even if its expression seemed clumsy and re-playable.
In all honesty, I understand his emotion. He’s got young kids, these are uncertain times, he may have taken a cut in pay, and he loses a position that he worked hard to attain. That really sucks. I feel bad. Every man is going to face it someday and you and I are no exception. I don’t want to see anyone lose a gig or get demoted (except really evil people with no dependents). The good news is that Mike still has a job and he will be hosting the 5pm and 6pm newscasts.
I can’t post the full video of his 10pm farewell because Channel 5 isn’t making it available. They have posted only part of it on their website. UPDATE: Here is a cheap copy.
Ben Rogers and Jeff “Skin” Wade were let go from 105.3 The Fan yesterday. I like those guys personally and professionally. Once again it sucks to lose a gig, but I know they will be happier now that they are not forced to do a brand of radio that they don’t believe in. B&S were forced into an awkward situation. The caller-driven form of sports radio was something the Ticket tried in the early days and subsequently moved away from under the direction of an old Program Director. The Fan believes that is the way to go. Who knows? Maybe it will work for them in the end, but I know that Ben and Skin were completely hamstrung by it.
I have also tons of media observations about the Ticket’s future and why the Ticket is now such a lightening rod. Wanna hear them?
I’ve posted this before on your site- I thought Ben and Skin were genious on the Ticket. They seemed to thrive in the loose sports related atmosphere that the Ticket provided them. Unfortunately, that just didn’t seem to translate to the hard-core 100% sports format of the Fan.
I hope the Ticket gives them a home back at 1310. I can’t see how it would be a bad thing- they may even bring all 5 of the Fan’s listeners with them!
I really liked Ben & Skin on the Fan…that meant we didn’t have to endure them on the Ticket. Those guys are a whip…when they did fill in on 1310 they tried to be too Ticket, fit in a little too much and it didn’t work. Hopefully ESPN can hire them for through the night air time or 1310 can finally get rid of that retarded geezer who does 10-noon as even Bengay & Foreskin would be an upgrade.
I am sorry that B&S lost their job on the fan. However please do not hire them back on the ticket. Whenever they were on the air was the only time I ever turned the ticket off. There is already 1 spare on the ticket broadcast (Jr. Miller)you don’t need 2 more.

I had a friend who got a phone call on saturday (a holiday no less) letting her know that she had been terminated. it was a shock, to be sure, and a sucker punch as well.
i’ve lost a job in the past and can honestly say that it is one of the most stressful and demoralizing things that can happen to a person.
sometimes you can say it was for the best, and sometimes, it can be a mutual parting of the ways. most times, though, it just sucks.

Ben & Skin lost their gig, not because of the format of The Fan, but because they SUCK! The only thing they did on 1310 was bash the Mav’s every other segment, and that’s all they had in their bag of nothing. The best thing Skin ever did was the “What’s on my Tivo” intro for BAD(D) radio, and that’s not saying much.
Now, about Gordo’s wish to see Karen Borta do her newscast every night with one boob hanging out and numbered puppies to bet on which one would get to the teat first (Norm would obviously have to handicap this every night), I vote an emphatic yes!
Ben and Skin were the strongest bench players in ticket history IMHO. Hope they had a contract that FAN has to honor. I read in Horn’s column that no market has 3 sports radio stations.

What can you say about Sports Radio in this Market? The formula is there. 10 minutes on yuck monkey talk, every 20 minutes a sports ticker, more yuck monkey talk. 5 minutes of phonage, Twit and Texting talk…rinse repeat. Ryners Ranger twitting was funny yesterday…I won’t eat popsycles ever again.

I think I would like to se Ben & Skin back in the old part time role, possibly with Bascik. They are all basketball heavy anyways and Mike and Quack just don’t do much for me. Listening to the tickers of Rich and being force-fed Nascar news is enough for me.

Man, I REALLY hope that somehow Ben & Skin can come back to the Ticket to do a weekend show and do the “fill in” duties when shows are on vacation. The latest trend of Rich Phillips and Mike Bascik is the worst thing that has EVER happened on the little Ticket. The sound of Dick Hicks voice and the idiotic comments he adds makes me want to go all Steve McNair on him. And I’m getting sick of the ‘couldnt quite cut it in the majors but still talks about it constantly’ Mike Ass-Kick.

I can honestly say it was my first time experimenting with “homo-eroticism” and I don’t feel as dirty as I had feared. Thanks and here is to us “playing together” again (in my mind) real soon.

I’m sure Ben and Skin are good guys, and I hate to sound like I am kicking them when they are down, but I never liked listening to them. I tried and tried, thinking they were an acquired taste. But it just got harder, not easier, to listen to them. Toward the end of their time with the little Ticket, I brought an iPod into the car and listened to it whenever they were on.
Ben and Skin are far more entertaining than anything The Ticket airs after 10am. I hope they find a home there again.

I’ve posted this on your site before (and that means I’m a prophet or maybe just an arrogant ass) but ben and skin were teeeeerible. All they talked about was rap and inside jokes. Their so called ‘quick-witted-rapid-fire-delivery’ was not funny and neither was all of their ‘insider’ knowledge of the Mavericks. They were just as quick a tune out as the Hot Spot or Rocco. Now can someone please tell me what the Fan is?
Oh and hopefully getting rid of Jub in favor of anyone at that hack station will turn into a PR nightmare for Jerry Jones who I am now actively rooting against.

They were the only show on that station I thought had anything. The morning show is particularly awful. I enjoyed listening to their show on my drive home from work and was disappointed to hear Salsbury on instead. I was hoping Ben and Skin were just switching shifts or on vacation. Sad to hear they got the axe. Ridiculous. Hope they land somewhere on the dial, 103.3 maybe, or even back with The Ticket.
The Fan blows. Having a strong signal doesn’t mean a whole lot when your content is trash.
Tap the breaks on B&S! They were good but at no time were they “genius”! They rode the coat-tails of the little ticket for years. Their content on the ticket matched what the station wanted out of their hosts during the time period. They went to the fan and, for what ever reason, they were let go. I’m sorry… if you are good, you are NOT let go… whether you are “hamstrung” or not!!!

It’s funny, but I heard BaD radio play the Ben and Skin intro song the other day coming out of a break, and the first thing I thought was “I bet they got axed,” even though it was never mentioned. Guess I was right.
Not too surprised about Ben and Skin. All the in-jokes, and ceaseless non-stop schtick got tiresome to me. And I really grew weary of them talking about their favorite subject: Ben and Skin. (The Mavs being a distant second.)
That said, I’d rather listen to them than the Raceweek CD on Saturdays, but that’s not saying much. Bring back K-Scott… again.

Ben & Skin are genious. The Fan can try the “I know serious sports” thing all day but bottom line is anyone can get this via satellite radio and/or Norm. If The Ticket is smart and B&S contract will allow, they will snag these boys. And ESPN 103.3 would be right behind them. B&S are right out of the 1310 genre…and should have a spot there. My recommendation…put Corby, Danny and Barb on Ticket Sports Saturday/Sunday and let them have a political show. This way, I’ll know not to listen during the weekend.
Ooops…add Ben & Skin to the list above. Once you get them out from under Mark Cuban’s desk, you’ll realize they really suck.
