Separated at Birth

Like you, I am a bit worn out on the Ryan Moats controversy, but I would not be doing my journalistic duty if I did not share with you the findings of my investigation.

SMU Newspaper hates the Ticket

Ok. I don’t know if any of our other shows got around to talking about this today, but I know the morning show really and truly meant to discuss it but played Chimpanzee riding on a Segway instead.

Meet Nicole Jacobsen. She is the Editor in Chief of SMU’s newspaper, Daily Campus. Well, Nicole went to the Ticket basketball game, and hated it. She wrote and opinion piece taking shots at the Ticket broadcasters and seems to have missed the point of the game entirely, which was FUN.

I sent Nicole the following email:

Nicole,
I appreciate you writing about the game, but I think you have the wrong idea. The whole event was a tongue-in-cheek goof intended to entertain our listeners and raise money for the girls’ basketball trip to Florida. We are not out to harm anyone nor did we do it because we are “thinking [we] are just so amazing.” It was a fun night for our broadcasters, a fun night for our listeners, and a fun night for the girls. Just ask them. They are probably still smiling.

She wrote back:

Hi Gordon -
I’m sure the game was in good fun, and the article was simply my opinion. Also, it said on the Ticket’s Website, admission was free so we were unaware the game was raising money for the team. I’m sorry if I offended you guys in my article, and maybe I did come across a little harsh, but it was after all, an opinion article.
Nicole Jacobsen, Editor in Chief, SMU Daily Campus

We did raise money for the girls through donations at the free event and on our website. Now here is the unpopular part. I feel bad for this girl. She is a college student testing the waters of opinion writing and probably doesn’t deserve the coal-raking she is getting. Hell, I used to write stuff for the Daily Campus. I know it wouldn’t survive much scrutiny. Maybe we should lay off of her and let her mull it over without getting bludgeoned with the same negative review 250 times.

Your call. I just kinda feel bad for her when I read all those comments. Humans were not designed to grow up online and outloud with the whole world able to look over the shoulder and make comments. And yes, I know the counter arguments here. But still, maybe cut her some slack…

Unfortunate name

I could read about credit default swaps, or this.

How would you rank them?

Where the Wild Things Are: I know so many people who loved the book when they were kids, but I was always was creeped out by it. Now we have the movie and I gotta say, the trailer makes me sad-happy. I have always been a pretty sensitive boy who has never been able to make much sense of his life and somehow this trailer is a wordless reverberation of that. When he is running in that little costume, tearing through the woods, with fear and bravery- it makes me so bittersweet I almost can’t stand it. Wanna go with me?

Sexy hot. Every Monday I try to post pictures of good-looking pianos. I like this one quite a bit. Looks like it would be fun to bang on.

Twitter

The allure of Twitter

The allure of Twitter

Like most guys up at the Ticket, I initially looked at Twitter with an strong distrustful gaze. Too often I have rolled my eyes at status updates, and tweets. Do I really care if Calr4360 is “totally freaking!”? But so many of you kept telling me, “it is not just a place to announce ‘OMG I’m eating a grapefruit!’ It can be a great tool to promote your content.” So I gave in.

follow the feed at www.twitter.com/gordonkeith

I am trying to use twitter as another way to communicate with the filthy P1, giving programming updates as to when Fake Tiger is coming on, and giving dollops of Ticket info like “OMG. Georgio just ate a grapefruit!” Enjoy!
